Research Guides or Supervisors are faculty members or scientists of Gauhati University or its affiliated colleges or of autonomous institutes recognised by Gauhati University as suitable for carrying out research work leading to the degree of PhD.

The process of recognition as supervisor to be able to supervise research scholars is governed by PhD Regulations 2023, Gauhati University. This is a stringent 3-step process which requires recommendations from Departmental Research Committee (DRC), Research Council (RC), and Executive Council (EC) of Gauhati University. The application for Guide-ship can made anytime in an academic session through the Online Application Facility (OAF) on this site. The expected time required for final notification can take up to six months from the date of application.

The application can be made by any regular faculty members (or scientist / scientific officers) of Gauhati University and its affiliated colleges or from autonomous institutions which are recognised by Gauhati University as suitable for carrying out research work leading to the degree of PhD. Prospective applicants are advised to go through the latest PhD Regulations of Gauhati University 2023 before filling up the application form.
